Nurturing Education and Wellbeing at Ebenezer Junior School
When Ebenezer Junior School opened its doors in February 2023, they began with the humble expectation of educating just six children. Yet, on the first day, 15 eager students showed up, and by the end of that first week, the classrooms were filled with over 45 students. This rapid growth was just the beginning of their journey. By the end of the year, their student body had surpassed 80 children, a testament to the immense need for quality education in their community.
Thanks to the generous support of donors, two additional classrooms were constructed in 2023, allowing the school to expand and welcome more students. Today, Ebenezer Junior School is proud to be educating over 125 children. But the mission doesn’t stop here.

This year, they laid the foundation for another two classrooms, aiming to accommodate even more children eager for the opportunity to learn. However, these classrooms remain unfinished, and our new fundraising campaign at Start the Ripple is focused on helping them complete this important project. By doing so, the school can increase its capacity by 50 more students, ensuring that no child in their community is left without access to education.

The Impact of Ebenezer Junior School's Feeding Program
As the school has grown, so has its commitment to supporting the overall wellbeing of its students. One of the critical ways they do this is through their school feeding program. Every morning, students receive hot porridge, a staple in Uganda, ensuring they start their day with a nutritious meal. For the older students who stay for afternoon classes, the school also provides lunch. These two meals are often the most reliable source of nutrition for students, many of whom face food insecurity at home.
The feeding program has become a lifeline for many children, some of whom come to school despite illness, knowing that they will at least be fed. But feeding over 125 students daily is no small task, and it requires a functional kitchen.
Why We Need Your Help
Currently, the school’s food is prepared in a makeshift kitchen with a tin roof and makeshift walls over an open fire. This setup is far from ideal, especially during Uganda’s rainy seasons, when cooking becomes exceedingly difficult and unsafe. To continue providing these essential meals, they need to construct a proper kitchen with concrete stoves and secure facilities.
Completing these new classrooms and building a fully functional kitchen are crucial next steps in our joint mission with Ebenezer Junior School. These developments will not only provide a safe and conducive learning environment for more students, but also ensure that the school can continue nourishing their bodies as we help educate their minds.
